ABOUT Heidi Gascon
My Photo StoryTeaching with TechnologyFrom an early age, I wanted to become a teacher in order to share my enthusiasm for education with others. While teaching first and third grade for four years, I was drawn to technology because it opened many possibilities for my students by enhancing the classroom environment and sparking an interest in learning. My own love of technology and classroom experiences led me to pursue a degree in educational technology from Michigan State University. Courses towards this degree have dramatically enhanced the way I taught my students. Technology became a way of life for my first graders, giving them the tools they need to be successful in the 21st Century. With the support of a classroom set of iPads, my students participated daily in creative and collaborative projects that are uploaded to individual Kidblogs. Their blog posts built a strong desire to read, write and share their learning with others. Kidblog, along with my own classroom website and blog, opened lines of communication between the classroom and home, allowing parents to actively participate in their child’s learning. Prepared with the tools I’ve gained from the MAET program, my personal learning network, and from four years of teaching, I have a desire to share this knowledge with others. A goal of mine for the future is to share my experiences and knowledge of technology with others and impact students outside of my classroom on a larger scale.
