Heidi Gascon's Technology Showcase
Welcome to my showcase page! While participating the the Master of Arts in Educational Technology program, I learned that technology is most effective when it is blended with effective teaching strategies and content area objectives. This page is separated into sections that display various ways technology can be used to enhance classroom instruction!
Integrating Blended/ Flipped Instruction
Dream big or go home... this website was prepared to demonstrate how flipping first grade reading instruction can help students understand that reading is thinking while building comprehension, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills. This project was created to open more time for instruction during the school day so students are able to directly apply skills learned from the flipped instruction videos.

Developing an Effective Online Environment
This online course was created to help teachers with a limited understanding of Chromebooks learn how to integrate the device and Google Drive into their classroom. By creating this online course, teachers are able to access content at their own pace and ask questions when I was back in their buildings. Click this link to learn more about the process of creating an online course and more!

Connecting Learning to a real world context
This website was created to connect Michigan State University to first grade content area objectives. The intention of this web quest is to build background knowledge in students prior to a new number line jumping math unit. By connecting the content to a fun and familiar topic, a site like this will support all students, especially reluctant learners.

Understanding Learners
This video presentation and website aim to answer the question, "What is a cloud," and proves the challenges with understanding another person's understanding. From this project I learned that an individual's age and prior knowledge can deeply shape one's understanding of a topic. Video created with iMovie.

Enhancing Instruction with the Use of Technology
This website showcases the site I used to keep students and parents up to date on classroom events and happenings. In addition, this site contains samples of student projects that were created with our classroom set of iPads. With this website, I learned the importance of parent communication and sharing student work in order to build a positive classroom community.
